Best Plays for Wednesday, December 3, 2008

Welcome to SPOT Plays where selections are specifically designed to make you a long run profit!  I’ve been a handicapper on National Turf’s phone line for over 10 years, and now I’m branching out to the website.  I always provide three selections each day (usually Southern California and selected simulcasts from big races around the country).  I also offer a basic betting strategy and a good sense of the quality of the play (how well I like it).  If I don’t like the card, I will tell you that as well.

Be aware that all plays may vary in their actual value due to scratches, unexpected poor weather, big changes in the racetrack itself, and most importantly, the odds of each horse. Keeping that in mind, I suggest having three basic betting amounts that you are comfortable using (i.e. $50 for excellent plays, $30 for good plays, and $20 for bet downs or selections on poor cards).  Bet the amounts accordingly based on the quality of the play and the odds.

Good luck and thank you for choosing SPOT Plays!

(Fair Card)

Race 4-   #2 Porto Santo has never seen a group this weak on the turf in his entire American racing career. All of these seem to possess some tactical speed so the fractions should be solid. Liberian may clear, but he will be forced to at least go fairly quick. Look for Porto to roll from the back of the pack.

The Play: #2 Porto Santo To Win. Exacta boxes 2 with #1 Black Astor and #6 Liberian Freighter.

Race 5- #5 I Love Charley is the only speed type in this 5th race. Speed has been super on the main track the past few days. Arambula is a good speed rider. This trainer is very capable with sprinters. I love to bet last out maiden breakers in these non winners of two lifetime.

The Play:#5 I Love Charley to Win. Exacta boxes 5 with #7 Stately Appeal and #8 Kylie’s Way.

Race 6- #5 Wild Apart makes a huge trainer change to a Kathy Walsh who really can get a horse to fire fresh. This one looks to be spotted correctly and can take these gate to wire.

The Play: #5 Wild Apart To Win. Exacta boxes 5 with #6 2 Drama Cat and #4 Sister Lucy.

Race 2-   #2 Premium Quality should get a perfect trip today with a much better draw to turn the tides on rival Pocosin’s Game Boy. This one was real wide out last time and probably needed the race. Look for this one to run big at an overlaid price.

The Play: #2 Premium Quality To Win. Exacta boxes 2 with #1 Pocosin’s Game Boy and #7 Red Arrow.

Race 4- #6 Peace Chant has a ton of plusses in this fourth event and should get the win. He has a great draw and catches a really soft pace scenario. This one hasn’t been on the lead in quite some time and if no one sends he could find himself all alone on what should be a very slow quarter. Other plusses include a Hot trainer,a solid speed rider,a good work pattern and a field with many of these still a race or two from their best.

The Play:#6 Peace Chant to Win. Exacta boxes 6 with #1 Kruger Park and #2 Talkin to Mom Roo and #4 Gayego.

Race 5- #3 Kris Silver can be a very dangerous speed type when fresh and left alone on the front. His last start of a similar layoff was a smasher over at Santa Anita. If this one can get the lead from Railroad he’ll be super tough to hall in.

The Play: #3 Kris Silver To Win. Exacta boxes 3 with #6 Tent,#7 Best Dressed and #8 Railroad

Race 9- Let’s face it, this was a bad year for three year old grass horses here in Southern California. We need a new face for this great betting race. #3 Cowboy Cal is the right horse. This one has been super in every grass race he’s been in. Great connections and a tactical advantage in a race with not much pace he should be up close or on the lead early. Distance looks fine for this one and trainer knows how to get them ready for a big race.

The Play: #3 Cowboy Cal To Win. Exacta boxes 3 with #2 Court Vision, #5 Madeo, #7 Gio Ponte and #9 Muny.

               Trifecta key 3 with 2,5,7,9 with 2,5,7,9.

                2nd ticket 2,5,7,9 with 3 with 2,5,7,9.

Hollywood Park

(Good Card)

Race 2-   #4 Grecian has a chance to have received the worst beat of the year in her last try. (Please watch the tape if you can). She appears to be quicker than possible pace rival Dancing Mica. Trainer has to be feeling great after two Breeders Cup winners and his horses are running well here at Hollywood. Look for a big effort from this one.

The Play: #4 Grecian To Win. Exacta boxes 4 with #1 Bachelorette One and #7 Keladora.

Race 7- #2 Devoted Magic caught a really soft bunch for his first turf race and won easily. The good news is that he appears to have caught another very weak bunch in this race. He should get a great trip second or third early behind a moderate pace. Super draw for this and trainer has really started his career in a big way.

The Play:#2 Devoted Magic to Win. Exacta boxes 2 with #3 Kingdom Come,4 Taxi Fleet and #9 Hoist the Sail.

Race 8- #9 Carrilero was never asked in his last race and could not have been more impressive. He seems to be headed back to 2007 form when he was only one back in the grade one Malibu and ran an unreal race down the hill for a win(That race was better than his last one). Lone speed in the race is the one to catch and that should spread this group out and give Carrilero a good chance to close.

The Play: #9 Carrilero To Win. Exacta boxes 9 with #1 Delta Storm,#6 Hurry Up Austin and #10 California Flag.

Hollywood Park (Happy Thanksgiving)

(Fair Card)

Race 4-   #5 Parko has run well in all of his three turn grass races. He should get a good trip here for Tyler Baze. Canani has always been good with these types. This one looks to be in the best shape for a top effort.

The Play: #5 Parko To Win. Exacta boxes 5 with #7 Dadsalittleunusual and #8 Victorian Prince.

Race 6- #7 Foxy Danseur seems to have really improved for hot connections. Mike Smith is riding real well, especially in the big races. Look for this one to get a clean trip outside what should be a decent pace.

The Play:#7 Foxy Danseur  to Win. Exacta boxes 7 with #3 Peppermint Lounge,#4 Coco Belle and #6 Tizzy’s Tune.

Race 7- #8 Liberian Freighter has really improved of his last two starts. He should get an easy trip up on the lead here. This runner obviously loves it here. Look for him to go wire to wire.

The Play: #8 Liberian Freighter To Win. Exacta boxes 8 with #1,1a Ten Moropa, Ghetto and 6 Slew’s Tiznow.

(Good Card)

Race 6-  #4 Spanish Bunny finished with a ton of run the other day at six furlongs. Another Unusual Heat that moved way up on the grass and should love the extra distance here. Look for a nice ground saving stalking trip that should give this one a great shot today .

The Play: #4 Spanish Bunny To Win. Exacta boxes 4 with #6 G’s Heavenly Union, #9 Astraea and #11 Haka.

Race 7- #1 Coronel Moldes is a live bomber in this seventh race. I loved his first race in the country. He was a runoff in the post parade in his second race then didn’t take the ship last time. Good distance for this one who’s training real well right here at Hollywood. He should get a decent pace in here.

The Play:#1 Coronel Moldes to Win. Exacta boxes 1 with #2 Sixcess,#8 All Man and #9 Star Nicholas.

Race 9- #3 One Vote looks like a speed play here in the night cap. This one ran well second out after facing a tough maiden group up north. Workouts are right here at Hollywood and trainer has always been a solid one to wager on. Look for this one to go wire to wire.

The Play: #3 One Vote To Win. Exacta boxes 3 with #4 Renegade Storm,#6 One More Week and #9 Just Heat.

Late Pick Four Play  4,6,9,11 with 1,2,8,9 with 2,3 with 3,4,6,9 (or single #3 in last leg)         A ticket $128 or B ticket $32
