Best Plays for Monday, September 7, 2009

Welcome to SPOT Plays where selections are specifically designed to make you a long run profit!  I’ve been a handicapper on National Turf’s phone line for over 10 years, and now I’m branching out to the website.  I always provide three selections each day (usually Southern California and selected simulcasts from big races around the country).  I also offer a basic betting strategy and a good sense of the quality of the play (how well I like it).  If I don’t like the card, I will tell you that as well.

Be aware that all plays may vary in their actual value due to scratches, unexpected poor weather, big changes in the racetrack itself, and most importantly, the odds of each horse. Keeping that in mind, I suggest having three basic betting amounts that you are comfortable using (i.e. $50 for excellent plays, $30 for good plays, and $20 for bet downs or selections on poor cards).  Bet the amounts accordingly based on the quality of the play and the odds.

Good luck and thank you for choosing SPOT Plays!

Del Mar

(Good Card)

Race 3- #4 Victorina comes from a very live barn. Plenty of pace for her to chase on a surface she should really like. This is a terrific barn to bet on. Favorate is running her forth race in a month. Look for her to come flying late.

The Play: #4 Victorina To Win. Exacta boxes 4 with #2 Hot n Dusty and #7 Briecat.

Race 4-#7 Joshua’s Dream ran a smasher here early in the meet. With no pace to chase he went about as wide as a horse could go and still almost got up. No pace problems today and he gets a huge barn change to Hollendorfer.

The Play: #7 Joshua’s Dream To Win. Exacta boxes 7 with #3 Chestnut Touch, #5 Yankee Visionary and #6 Deal Breaker.

Race 7 -  We need a pick six single. #3 Indian Firewater appears the best one on the card. This one ran super first out when he chased track record holder Sidneys Candy in a very live race. Baffert is finishing the meet with a bang and love the fact Gomez is back for more.

The Play: #3 Indian Firewater To Win. Exacta boxes 3 with #7 My Friend Bernie and #9 Via Verde.

Del Mar

(Poor Card)

Race 6- #1 Jazzandthemagician is the new face in a fairly weak heat for this level. This one has trained well in the morning for Mitchell who is due a bunch of wins here late in the meet. Expect a clean trip just behind the speed.

The Play: #1 Jazzandthemagician To Win. Exacta boxes 1 with #6 Point Attented, #7 Deputy Flyer and #9 Major Smoke.

Race 7-#1 Cape of Bradford was scratched yesterday to here in this stake race today. She could get a length on these by the turn and in this five furlong race that just may be enough. Look for good effort on the lead here today.

The Play: #1 Cape of Bradford To Win. Exacta boxes 1 with #2 Reba is Tops and #4 Queen of the Catsle.

Del Mar

(Fair Card)

Race 2- #1 Tamerin was super here winning from the outside post earlier in the meet. Great draw today and should be able to tuck in just behind the two front runners. A repeat of his last should go a long way here today.

The Play: #1 Tamerin To Win. Exacta boxes 1 with #4 See n Win and #5 Annihilation.

Race 7-#4 The Usual Q.T. was super impressive here early in the meet and looks like a pick six single. He’s another that should get a great ground saving trip just in behind the speed. Rider change to Gomez who seems to be back to his normal self is a nice plus. Single this one in your pick six.

The Play: #4 The Usual Q.T. To Win. Exacta boxes 4 with #6 Adam Suances and #11 Barbarosso.

Race 8- #3 La Nez really has the right style for this race today. Speed has not been very good here the past week or so and this one can tuck in just behind the pace. Trainer has two in here and this one is the one isn’t Espinoza’s top choice. However, that should really help the price.

The Play: #3 La Nez To Win. Exacta boxes 3 with #4 Magic Yodeler and #8 Whispering Hush.

Del Mar

(Good Card)

Race 6- #1 Unzip Me could not have looked any better in her last start which was over this course. She gets plenty of pace to chase and the inside has been good all week long. Look for her to come rolling.

The Play: #1 Unzip Me To Win. Exacta boxes 1 with #6 Puff Maddie, #9 Stash and #10 Mona De Momma.

Race 7-  #6 Winter Canyon  looks all set for his second trip to the races. The rail was dead in the five and a half furlong races early in the meet. This one really started slowly. Look for a much better break today and a trip to the winners circle.

The Play: #6 Winter Canyon To Win. Exacta boxes 6 with #2 Get My Fix and #7 Saintly Seoul.

Race 8-   How about a big price in the Del Mar Mile. #2 Victor’s Cry is really an improving sort that should get a good trip for Bejarano. This guy was really solid before going to the bench and he could become the new kid in town today with only slight improvement. Track continues to favor of pace runners, even with the rails way out. Look for a big try.

The Play: #Victor’s Cry To Win. Exacta boxes 2 with #4 Becrux, #7 Monterey Jazz and #9 Ferneley.

Race 10- #2 On Fire really came home nicely in his last two races. Abrams has been solid all meet with price runners on the grass. This guy should get speed to run at and will be rolling late.

The Play: #2 On Fire To Win. Exacta boxes 2 with #4 Captain Kurt, #8 Icemancometh, #10 Self Made Man and #12 Taco Willy.

Del Mar

(Good Card)

Race 4-  Today is all about the pick six. #4 Recess really responded to his new connections and ran a very nice race against this same group of runners. There appears to be plenty of pace to chase and Rosario usually makes all the right decisions. This one is a solid pick six single.

The Play: #4 Recess To Win. Exacta boxes 4 with #7 Winky and  #10 Wondrous Event.

Race 5-  #8 Go Ask Alex hasn’t really run very well in either of her starts. However, her pedigree screams long on the turf and these connections are as good as it gets for bringing in price runners at Del Mar. She has improved works since last out and she will be a nice price. (Spread race for pick six)

The Play: #8 Go Ask Alex To Win. Exacta boxes 8 with #3 Impertraz, #5 Forbidden Paradise and #9 Fifty K.

Race 7-  #2 Over Andover looked great here breaking maiden August 2nd. She really had trouble going into the first turn and still came away with and easy victory. She will get plenty of pace to chase with Love Apple almost certain to try a theft. Closer have continued to dominate over this course and I expect a similar outcome today.

The Play: #2 Over Andover To Win. Exacta boxes 2 with #4 Coatcheck Girl and #5 Dextera.

Race 8- We need another pick six single! How about a solid two spot instead.  #7 Lady Alex has really improved since being claimed by leading trainer John Sadler. Tons of trouble facing many of these on July 30th and then she rebounded for a super effort August 13th. She should get a great stalking trip for Rosario and should be very tough. #11 Makit Till Midnite is a strong second runner in this race. She was very good here first time over the track and now she has worked right here at Del Mar for connections that have been winning these type of races. It looks like a two horse race!!!

The Play: Exacta box #7 Lady Alex and #11 Makit Till Midnite.
